The short answer · Last updated August 2026

Hootsuite costs $99 per user a month for Standard, $199 per user for Professional and $399 per user for Advanced, with Enterprise quoted privately. The number that surprises teams is the unit. Hootsuite states on its own plans page that plans are sold per user, or seat, so a three-person team on Professional pays about $597 a month rather than $199. Standard caps you at 10 social accounts, while Professional and Advanced remove the account cap and limit nothing except how many people you employ. There is no free plan, the trial runs 14 days with no credit card, and registered nonprofits pay $39, $79 and $159 per user under the Hootsuite giving program. AutoMarketer charges a flat plan instead, $49 a month for SEO and social, with no per-seat multiplier at all.

What you get

Every price on the card is a one-person price

Hootsuite plans are sold per user, so the published number is what a single seat costs. Three people on Professional is about $597 a month and five on Advanced is about $1,995. AutoMarketer plans include seats in the price: 3 on Growth at $149 and 5 on Scale at $399, so hiring a second marketer does not reprice the tool.

The cheap tier caps accounts, the expensive tiers cap people

Standard limits you to 10 social accounts. Professional and Advanced remove that limit completely. So a solo owner running 12 profiles has to double the bill to $199 purely for the account allowance, while a five-person team pays five times over for a cap they cleared on day one.

There has been no free plan since 2023

Hootsuite retired its free tier. What remains is a 14-day trial that needs no credit card and does not charge you automatically when it ends, with daily posting limits while the trial runs. Anyone searching for a free Hootsuite plan is searching for something that no longer exists.

Nonprofits pay a published rate, not a negotiated one

Hootsuite publishes the discount rather than hiding it behind a sales call: save up to 60 percent, which lands Standard at $39, Professional at $79 and Advanced at $159 per user a month. You apply directly or through TechSoup. Very few vendors publish a nonprofit number, so check it before paying list price.

Scheduling was never the part that stalls

Hootsuite is a mature publishing, inbox and analytics suite built for teams who already have the posts written. AutoMarketer reads your website, drafts the social posts, the blog articles and the ads, and then queues them for export. The empty calendar is the problem it solves.

Where Hootsuite is the better buy, honestly

If you manage many brand accounts, need a unified social inbox, social listening, multi-step approval workflows and team-level analytics, Hootsuite does all of that far more deeply than we do. We are the better fit when social is one of four channels you need running and nobody has time to write for any of them.

How it works

01

Paste your website URL

No account connections and no trial signup to see a number. The AI reads your public site and builds a brand profile in about 30 seconds.

02

Hold it against your seat count

Multiply your Hootsuite tier by the number of people who need logins, then compare. You see our channels, sample posts and the price before creating an account.

03

Switch social on, keep what works

Plenty of teams keep Hootsuite for inbox and listening on one seat and move content production here. It does not have to be a full migration.

04

Review, then let it run

Approve every post in co-pilot mode, then move the channel to autopilot once the output has earned it.

Who it is for

The quote came back at four figures

You budgeted around $199 for Professional, then discovered the whole team needs logins and the real number is closer to $1,000 a month.

Twelve accounts on a one-person budget

You run more than 10 social profiles by yourself, so Standard will not hold them and Professional doubles your bill for an allowance you are the only person using.

The scheduler is full and the calendar is empty

The tool works perfectly. Nothing goes out, because writing five posts a week is the task that never reaches the top of the list.

Social runs and the other three channels do not

Posting is consistent, nothing is ranking, no ads are live and the email list has not heard from you since spring. A bigger social tier does not touch any of that.

How much does Hootsuite cost?

Hootsuite costs $99 per user a month on Standard, $199 per user on Professional and $399 per user on Advanced. Enterprise is quoted privately and has no published price. Those three numbers are the ones on the Hootsuite plans page, and they are correct as far as they go. They are also per person, which is the detail that decides your actual invoice.

Professional$199 a monthUnlimited1 or moreOne person managing a lot of accounts
Advanced$399 a monthUnlimited1 or moreTeams needing approvals and deeper analytics
EnterpriseCustom quoteUnlimitedCustomLarge organizations with procurement

Read the seats column again. It says one or more on all three paid tiers, and that is not a generous allowance. It is the statement that there is no included team.

Does Hootsuite charge per user?

Yes, and Hootsuite says so plainly. Its plans page states that Hootsuite plans are sold per user, or seat, so you can add as many users as your organization needs. Read as marketing copy that sounds like flexibility. Read as a pricing model it means the published price is a floor you multiply.

This is the single most useful thing to understand before you budget, because it inverts how the tiers feel. The comparison table above works the multiplication out. A three-person team on Professional is roughly $597 a month, or about $7,164 a year, from a price card that says $199. A five-person team on Advanced is close to $1,995 a month, which is agency retainer money for software.

It also creates an odd shape in the middle of the range. Standard is the only tier with an account cap, at 10 profiles. Professional and Advanced have no account cap at all. So the constraint flips as you climb: at the bottom you are limited by how many places you post, and at the top you are limited only by how many humans need a login. A solo consultant with 14 client profiles pays $199 for capacity, and a four-person in-house team pays $796 for the same tier without needing the capacity at all.

What is the Hootsuite Professional plan?

Professional is the $199 per user middle tier, and its job in the lineup is to remove the 10-account limit that defines Standard. Both tiers are aimed at a single operator. Professional adds unlimited social accounts, deeper scheduling and analytics, and the AI writing assistance Hootsuite has built into the composer over the last two years.

The practical question is whether you are buying Professional for accounts or for features. If you are under 10 profiles and the only reason you are looking at Professional is a feature or two, you are paying an extra $1,200 a year for them. If you are over 10 profiles, Professional is not optional, and the jump is unavoidable at any team size.

Is Hootsuite free?

No. Hootsuite retired its free plan in 2023 and there is no permanent free tier today. The free option that remains is a 14-day trial, which needs no credit card and does not convert into a charge on its own when it ends. Trial accounts carry daily posting limits, reported in the region of 10 to 20 posts per organization depending on the plan, so a trial is a look at the product rather than a fortnight of full production.

This matters because a lot of the advice still circulating online was written while the free plan existed. If a 2022 roundup told you Hootsuite has a free tier with 2 social accounts and 5 scheduled posts, that guidance is three years stale.

How much is Hootsuite for nonprofits?

Registered nonprofits get a published discount rather than a sales conversation. Hootsuite states on its giving page that you can save up to 60 percent on Hootsuite for nonprofits, and lists the discounted rates directly.

PlanList price per userNonprofit price per userAnnual saving on one seat
Standard$99 a month$39 a monthAbout $720
Professional$199 a month$79 a monthAbout $1,440
Advanced$399 a month$159 a monthAbout $2,880

Applications go directly through Hootsuite or through TechSoup, the nonprofit technology distributor most US 501(c)(3) organizations already use for discounted software. Note that the per-seat model still applies underneath the discount, so a three-person nonprofit communications team on Professional is around $237 a month rather than $79. That is still a serious saving, and it is worth ten minutes of paperwork before you pay list.

Is Hootsuite billed monthly or annually?

Sources genuinely disagree here, so here is the honest version rather than a confident one. The Hootsuite plans page presents its pricing on an annual basis and does not display a separate monthly rate alongside it. Some independent 2026 pricing guides state that Hootsuite is annual only. Others state that monthly billing exists at a higher effective per-user rate, with annual saving somewhere around 16 percent.

We could not resolve that from the vendor page itself, so treat the published $99, $199 and $399 as annual-commitment pricing and confirm the monthly option in checkout or with sales before you plan around it. If you need month-to-month flexibility, ask explicitly, because a 12-month commitment multiplied across seats is a materially different decision than a rolling one.

How much is Hootsuite Enterprise?

Hootsuite publishes no Enterprise price. Third-party pricing guides commonly report figures in the region of $16,000 to $18,000 a year, and that is a reported range from other people writing about their quotes rather than a rate card we can verify. Enterprise adds things like custom user provisioning, advanced permissions, dedicated support and expanded social listening. If you are in that conversation you will be given a number specific to your seat count and modules, and the reported range is only useful as a sanity check on whether you are in the right ballpark.

Hootsuite pricing compared with Buffer, Sprout Social and SocialPilot

The interesting difference between social tools is not the headline price. It is what each vendor decided to count. Compare the billing units and most of the confusion in this category disappears.

ToolBilling unitEntry priceWhat multiplies the bill
HootsuitePer user seat$99 per user a monthAdding people
BufferPer channel$5 per channel a monthAdding social accounts, team members are unlimited
Sprout SocialPer user seatAbout $79 per seat a month on annual billingAdding people
SocialPilotPer plan$20 a month, about $17 on annualCrossing an account or user allowance
LaterPer planAbout $18.75 a month on annual billingExtra social sets, users and AI credits as paid add-ons
Zoho SocialPer plan, per brand$15 a month, about $10 on annualAdding brands
AutoMarketerFlat plan$49 a monthNothing per seat, seats are included in the tier

Buffer is the sharpest contrast with Hootsuite in the whole category. Buffer bills per connected channel and lets unlimited team members in for free, which is the exact opposite trade. A ten-person team posting to four channels pays Buffer around $20 a month on Essentials and Hootsuite around $990 on Standard. Turn it around and a solo operator with 40 channels pays Buffer $200 and Hootsuite $199, and the ranking reverses. Neither model is wrong. They are priced for different shaped customers, and most teams pick the wrong one because they compare the entry prices instead of the units. There is a fuller breakdown of the whole category in our guide to social media management pricing and a head to head in Hootsuite versus Sprout Social versus Buffer.

Is Hootsuite worth it?

For a social media team, frequently yes. Hootsuite has been building this product since 2008 and the depth shows in the places that matter to people doing the job full time: the unified inbox that pulls comments and messages from every network into one queue, approval workflows for regulated or multi-stakeholder brands, social listening, and analytics that survive a board meeting. Nothing in our product replaces that, and we would rather say so than pretend.

The case against it is narrower and it is usually about fit rather than quality. If one or two people are handling social alongside four other jobs, you are paying a per-seat enterprise price for a workflow layer that a team of six would use and you will not. And if your actual bottleneck is that nothing gets written, a better scheduler does not move the number. Hootsuite is excellent at publishing what exists. It does not create what does not.

When a flat plan costs less than a per-seat plan

The honest capability comparison, including the columns where Hootsuite clearly wins.

The arithmetic is easier than it looks. One person who only needs social scheduling and wants the Hootsuite inbox should buy Hootsuite Standard at $99. Two or more people who need social plus content, email and ads are comparing $198 and up against a flat $149 that covers four channels and three seats. Above five people the per-seat model stops being a software decision and becomes a headcount decision.

If you are weighing a switch rather than a budget, our Hootsuite alternative comparison covers the move in detail, social media scheduler covers how the category works, and AI social media manager covers what changes when the posts are drafted for you. Frequently asked questions

How much does Hootsuite cost?

Hootsuite costs $99 per user a month for Standard, $199 per user for Professional and $399 per user for Advanced, with Enterprise quoted privately. Standard includes 10 social accounts and the two higher tiers include unlimited accounts. All three prices are per seat, so the number you pay is the tier price multiplied by how many people need a login.

How much does Hootsuite cost per month?

For one person, $99 to $399 a month depending on tier. For a team, multiply. A three-person team is about $297 a month on Standard, $597 on Professional and $1,197 on Advanced. A five-person team on Advanced is close to $1,995 a month. Nonprofit rates cut those figures by up to 60 percent.

Does Hootsuite charge per user?

Yes. The Hootsuite plans page states that plans are sold per user, or seat, so you can add as many users as your organization needs. Every published price is therefore a one-person price. Seats are listed as one or more on Standard, Professional and Advanced, which means no additional users are included in any paid tier.

Is Hootsuite free?

No. Hootsuite retired its free plan in 2023 and there is no permanent free tier now. You can start a 14-day trial without a credit card, and it does not charge you automatically when it ends. Trial accounts have daily posting limits, reported around 10 to 20 posts per organization depending on plan.

What is the Hootsuite Professional plan?

Professional is the $199 per user middle tier. Its main job is removing the 10 social account cap that defines Standard, so it includes unlimited social accounts along with deeper scheduling, analytics and AI composer assistance. Like every Hootsuite tier it is priced per seat, so a three-person team pays around $597 a month.

How much is Hootsuite for nonprofits?

Hootsuite publishes a nonprofit discount of up to 60 percent, which puts Standard at $39, Professional at $79 and Advanced at $159 per user a month. Registered nonprofits apply directly through Hootsuite or through TechSoup. The per-seat model still applies, so multiply the discounted rate by your number of users.

Is Hootsuite billed monthly or annually?

The Hootsuite plans page presents pricing on an annual basis and does not show a separate monthly rate. Independent 2026 guides disagree: some report annual billing only, others report a monthly option at a higher per-user rate with roughly 16 percent saved on annual. Confirm in checkout or with sales before committing.

How much is Hootsuite Enterprise?

Hootsuite does not publish an Enterprise price. Third-party pricing guides commonly report roughly $16,000 to $18,000 a year, which is a reported range rather than a verified rate card. Enterprise adds custom provisioning, advanced permissions, expanded listening and dedicated support, and is quoted against your seat count and modules.

Is Hootsuite worth the price?

For a dedicated social team, often yes: the unified inbox, approval workflows, listening and analytics are genuinely deep and hard to replace. For one or two people handling social alongside other work, the per-seat price buys a collaboration layer you will not use. And if the bottleneck is that nothing gets written, a scheduler does not solve it.
