The short answer · Last updated August 2026

Sprout Social costs $99 per seat a month for Essentials on monthly billing, or $79, $199, $299 and $399 per seat a month billed annually for Essentials, Standard, Professional and Advanced. Every plan is priced per seat, so three people on Standard costs about $597 a month and ten costs about $1,990. Essentials and Standard both cap you at 5 social profiles, and that cap does not lift until Professional. There is a 30 day free trial with no credit card, and no free plan.

What you get

Every price multiplied by headcount

Sprout Social publishes a per seat rate. The number you compare against other tools is that rate times the number of people who need a login, which is the table further down this page.

The profile cap is the hidden one

Essentials and Standard both include 5 social profiles. Paying $120 more per seat to move from Essentials to Standard buys features, not profiles. Only Professional lifts the cap.

Nonprofit rate, from the vendor page

Sprout Social publishes 20 percent off Professional and Advanced for US 501(c)(3) organizations, at $239 and $299 per seat a month, with a two seat minimum.

A different model for comparison

AutoMarketer is priced per plan, not per person: $49 a month for SEO and social content on Starter, $149 on Growth which adds email and Google Ads copy plus 3 seats, $399 on Scale for all six content types and 5 seats.

The posts get written, not just queued

Sprout Social is a publishing and listening platform for content you supply. AutoMarketer reads your website and writes the content, which is a different problem and a different bill.

No login required to see the output

Paste a website URL on this page and the demo builds a real content plan from that site with no account and no card. That is how you check the writing quality before any money moves.

How it works

01

Count the seats, then the profiles

Multiply the per seat rate by everyone who needs a login. Then check whether 5 profiles covers your accounts, because Essentials and Standard both stop there.

02

Decide what the bottleneck actually is

If posts pile up unpublished, a scheduler fixes it. If the calendar sits empty because nobody wrote anything, a scheduler does not.

03

Paste your URL here

The demo reads your site, works out what you sell, and drafts a month of SEO and social content so you can judge the writing rather than the marketing copy about it.

04

Approve and export

Everything lands in a review queue. You approve what you want and export it as CSV or copy it out, then post it from your own accounts or your existing scheduler.

Who it is for

Teams pricing Sprout Social for the first time

The published number is per seat. Four people on Standard is about $796 a month, or $9,552 a year, before any add on. Seeing that before the demo call saves a lot of time.

Small teams stuck at 5 profiles

A business with a Facebook page, Instagram, LinkedIn company page, X account and a YouTube channel is already at the Essentials and Standard limit with nothing left over.

Nonprofits checking the discount

The 20 percent nonprofit rate applies only to Professional and Advanced and requires two seats, so the cheapest verified nonprofit entry is about $478 a month.

Anyone whose real problem is the writing

If the calendar is empty rather than disorganized, the tool that fixes it is one that produces content, not one that queues it.

How much does Sprout Social cost?

Sprout Social costs $79 per seat a month for Essentials, $199 for Standard, $299 for Professional and $399 for Advanced, all billed annually. Essentials is also listed at $99 per seat a month on monthly billing. Enterprise is quoted individually. Every tier is priced per seat, so the bill tracks headcount rather than output.

Those four numbers came off sproutsocial.com/pricing on 23 August 2026. Comparison articles disagree with each other badly on this category, so it is worth checking the vendor page yourself before you commit to a year.

Sprout Social pricing plans at a glance

PlanAnnual, per seatMonthly, per seatSocial profilesWho it is built for
Essentials$79$995Publishing, a shared inbox and basic reporting
Standard$199Not published5Adds competitive reports and approval workflow
Professional$299Not publishedUnlimitedAdds trend analysis and paid social reporting
Advanced$399Not publishedUnlimitedAdds automated chatbots and sentiment analysis
EnterpriseCustomCustomUnlimitedLarge teams that need listening and services

One note on billing frequency. The pricing page presents the four tiers as annual rates and publishes a monthly figure for Essentials only. Third party guides claim monthly billing exists across the range at a premium of roughly 20 to 25 percent. That is plausible, it is not on the vendor page, and this page will not state it as fact.

What Sprout Social costs at real team sizes

This is the part that changes the decision. A per seat price is not a price, it is a multiplier. Here is the annual rate applied to the team sizes that actually come up.

Team sizeEssentialsStandardProfessionalAdvanced
1 person$79/mo$199/mo$299/mo$399/mo
2 people$158/mo$398/mo$598/mo$798/mo
3 people$237/mo$597/mo$897/mo$1,197/mo
5 people$395/mo$995/mo$1,495/mo$1,995/mo
10 people$790/mo$1,990/mo$2,990/mo$3,990/mo

Read the Standard row across and the model becomes obvious. Three people who publish the same twelve posts a month as one person pay three times as much for the same twelve posts. Over a year, a modest five person team on Standard is committing about $11,940, and the same team on Advanced is committing about $23,940. Ten people on Advanced reaches roughly $47,880 a year, which is agency money.

None of that is a criticism of the product. Sprout Social is a genuinely strong platform and the per seat model is a normal way to sell collaboration software. It is a warning about how you compare it, because the headline $79 is a per person number and almost every article that quotes it forgets to say so.

The 5 profile cap that does not lift when you upgrade

Here is the constraint most pricing roundups miss entirely. Essentials includes 5 social profiles. Standard also includes 5 social profiles. Moving from Essentials to Standard costs an extra $120 per seat every month and buys competitive reporting, approval workflow and better analytics. It does not buy a single additional profile.

That matters because 5 goes quickly. A business with a Facebook page, an Instagram account, a LinkedIn company page, an X account and a YouTube channel has used all five and has nothing left for TikTok, Pinterest, a second brand, or a founder profile. The cap only lifts on Professional at $299 per seat a month, which means the upgrade that solves a profile problem is a 3.8x jump from Essentials rather than the 2.5x jump you would expect.

So there are two multipliers running at once on the cheaper tiers: people and profiles. That combination is what produces quotes far above what buyers expect from the pricing page.

Sprout Social nonprofit pricing

Sprout Social publishes a nonprofit rate, and the details are more specific than most write ups suggest. From the nonprofit pricing page, checked 23 August 2026:

PlanList, per seatNonprofit, per seatDiscount
Essentials$79Not offeredNone published
Standard$199Not offeredNone published
Professional$299$23920 percent
Advanced$399$29920 percent

Two conditions sit on top of it. The pricing is for 501(c)(3) organizations in the US, and it is available to qualifying nonprofits who commit to at least two seats on an annual subscription. Put those together and the cheapest verified nonprofit entry point is two Professional seats at $239, which is $478 a month, or about $5,736 a year. A small nonprofit hoping the discount would bring Essentials down to something affordable will find the discount does not apply to Essentials at all.

Does Sprout Social have a free trial?

Yes. Sprout Social offers a 30 day free trial with no credit card required, which is one of the longer trials in the category and twice the 14 days Hootsuite lists. There is no permanent free plan. If you are evaluating, 30 days is enough to run a full monthly content cycle and see whether the bottleneck was really scheduling.

Billing units across the social tools, side by side

Most of the confusion in this category disappears once you compare what each vendor decided to count rather than the headline number.

ToolBilling unitEntry priceWhat multiplies the bill
Sprout SocialPer seat$79 per seat a monthPeople, and profiles below Professional
HootsuitePer user seat$99 per user a monthPeople
BufferPer channel$5 per channel a monthChannels, people are unlimited
SocialPilotPer plan, users bundled$20 a monthAccounts and plan tier
AutoMarketerPer plan$49 a monthPlan tier only

Buffer and Sprout Social sit at opposite ends of the same category. Buffer charges for channels and gives away people. Sprout Social charges for people and, on the two cheapest tiers, caps channels too. Which one is cheaper depends entirely on the shape of your team, not on which is better software.

Where Sprout Social earns the money and where it does not

An honest capability comparison, including the rows where Sprout Social clearly wins.

Six of those rows go to Sprout Social. If your team lives in a shared social inbox, reports on share of voice, or needs listening, this comparison is not close and you should buy Sprout Social. The reason to read further is that a large share of the people pricing social tools do not have that problem.

What AutoMarketer costs instead, and what it actually does

AutoMarketer is priced per plan rather than per person. Starter is $49 a month and covers SEO and content plus social content, one site, one seat and 30 assets a month. Growth is $149 and adds email campaign copy and Google Ads copy, three seats and 150 assets a month. Scale is $399 for all six content types, three sites, five seats and 600 assets. Agency is $899 for fifteen sites and fifteen seats.

Being precise about the product matters more than the price. AutoMarketer reads your website, works out what you sell, and writes marketing content across those channels on a schedule you set. Everything lands in a review queue. You approve it and export it as CSV or copy it out. It does not log into your social accounts, it does not publish or schedule posts for you, and it does not send your email. Those are jobs for the tool you already use, which for a lot of teams is exactly why the two sit together well.

If you already pay Sprout Social and the platform is doing its job, the honest advice is to keep it. The question worth asking is a narrower one: is the reason your calendar has gaps that the posts are hard to schedule, or that nobody has written them? Those two problems cost very different amounts to solve.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Sprout Social cost?

Sprout Social costs $79 per seat a month for Essentials, $199 for Standard, $299 for Professional and $399 for Advanced, billed annually. Essentials is also published at $99 per seat a month on monthly billing. Enterprise is quoted individually. Because pricing is per seat, three people on Standard costs about $597 a month.

Does Sprout Social charge per user?

Yes. Sprout Social prices every published plan per seat, so the bill scales with the number of people who need a login rather than with how much you post. Two people on Professional is about $598 a month and five is about $1,495, at the annual rate.

What is included in the Sprout Social Standard plan?

Standard is $199 per seat a month billed annually and adds competitive reports, approval workflow and stronger analytics on top of Essentials. It includes 5 social profiles, the same number as Essentials, so the upgrade buys features rather than additional accounts.

Does Sprout Social have a free trial?

Yes, a 30 day free trial with no credit card required. That is twice the length of the 14 day trial Hootsuite lists. There is no permanent free plan, so once the trial ends you either subscribe or lose access.

Does Sprout Social have a free plan?

No. Sprout Social has no permanent free tier. The only free access is the 30 day trial, which requires no credit card. Buffer is the main tool in this category that still publishes a genuinely free plan, limited to 3 channels.

How much is Sprout Social per month for a small team?

At the annual rate, a three person team pays about $237 a month on Essentials, $597 on Standard, $897 on Professional or $1,197 on Advanced. A five person team on Standard is about $995 a month, which works out near $11,940 a year.

Does Sprout Social offer nonprofit pricing?

Yes, 20 percent off Professional and Advanced, at $239 and $299 per seat a month. The discount is for 501(c)(3) organizations in the US and requires a commitment of at least two seats on an annual subscription, so the cheapest nonprofit entry is about $478 a month.

How many social profiles does Sprout Social include?

Essentials and Standard both include 5 social profiles. The cap does not change between those two tiers even though Standard costs $120 more per seat each month. Professional and Advanced list unlimited profiles.

Is Sprout Social worth the price?

It is worth it if your team needs a unified social inbox, social listening, approval chains or competitive reporting, where Sprout Social is genuinely strong. It is poor value if you mainly need posts written and published on a small number of accounts, because you would be paying enterprise rates per person for a calendar.

What is a cheaper alternative to Sprout Social?

For pure scheduling, Buffer bills per channel from $5 a month with unlimited team members, and SocialPilot bundles users into the plan from $20 a month. If the problem is that nobody writes the posts, AutoMarketer is $49 a month flat for SEO and social content, writes them from your website and exports them for you to publish.

Does AutoMarketer publish to social networks for me?

No, and it is better to say so plainly. AutoMarketer writes the content and builds the calendar, then hands you each asset as a CSV export or a one click copy. You publish from your own accounts or from the scheduler you already pay for. Direct publishing is not something the product does today.
