MailerLite is cheaper than Kit on every paid tier, and Kit is free where MailerLite is not. At 1,000 subscribers billed monthly, MailerLite Comfort is $19 against Kit Creator at $39. But Kit's free Newsletter plan carries 10,000 subscribers with unlimited broadcasts, where MailerLite's free plan now stops at 250. Both facts are true, and which one decides it for you comes down to how many automations you run.

That is a strange place for two competitors to end up, and it happened recently. Kit raised prices roughly 35 percent in September 2025. MailerLite renamed its plans, raised every tier and cut its free plan on 16 June 2026. Most of the comparisons you will find were written before one or both of those events, which is why so many of them still describe MailerLite as the generous free option and Kit as the expensive one. The first half of that is no longer true.

MailerLite vs Kit pricing at matched list sizes

Both columns below are monthly billing. That matters more than it sounds: a lot of published comparisons put one vendor's annual rate next to the other's monthly rate and reach a conclusion that reverses once you fix it. MailerLite prices in tiers of 500, 1,000, 2,500, 5,000 and 10,000; Kit uses 1,000, 3,000, 5,000 and 10,000, so these are the tiers where both publish a number.

Subscribers MailerLite Comfort Kit Creator Kit costs
1,000 $19 $39 2.05x
5,000 $49 $89 1.82x
10,000 $89 $139 1.56x
25,000 $179 $199 1.11x

The gap is widest at the bottom and nearly gone by 25,000 subscribers. If you are a small list, MailerLite saves you real money in percentage terms and about $20 a month in absolute terms. If you are at 25,000, the difference is $20 a month on a $200 bill and should not decide anything.

The top tiers behave the same way. MailerLite Power against Kit Creator Pro is $39 vs $79 at 1,000, $69 vs $139 at 5,000, $129 vs $189 at 10,000 and $239 vs $279 at 25,000. Same shape, same convergence.

One more wrinkle worth doing the arithmetic on. Kit's annual discount is two months free, about 16.7 percent. MailerLite's is 10 percent. So paying yearly narrows the gap in Kit's favor, but never closes it: at 1,000 subscribers the multiple goes from 2.05x monthly to 1.90x annually, and at 10,000 from 1.56x to 1.45x. Kit is still the more expensive paid product at every size.

The free plans are the actual story

Here is where the two vendors have swapped places, and where almost every ranking comparison is out of date.

MailerLite free Kit free (Newsletter)
Subscribers 250 10,000
Monthly emails 2,500 Unlimited broadcasts
Automations 3 1 sequence, 1 visual automation
Forms 3 Unlimited
Landing pages 1 Unlimited
Team seats 2 1
Branding on emails Yes Yes

Kit's free plan is forty times larger on subscribers and has no send ceiling at all. A 5,000 subscriber newsletter that mails weekly pays $49 a month on MailerLite and nothing on Kit, provided it can live inside one sequence and one visual automation.

MailerLite got here in two steps. The free plan was 1,000 subscribers and 12,000 monthly emails until 23 September 2025, when it dropped to 500 subscribers. On 16 June 2026 it dropped again, to 250 subscribers and 2,500 emails. Over nine months the subscriber allowance fell 75 percent and the send allowance fell 79 percent. Seats went the other way, from 1 to 2. If you read somewhere that MailerLite gives you 1,000 free subscribers, that figure is two changes old.

So which one is cheaper?

Neither, reliably. It depends on one question: how many automations do you actually run?

If the answer is one, Kit is free until 10,000 subscribers and MailerLite is $89 a month at that size. Kit wins by $1,068 a year and it is not close.

If the answer is more than one, you are on a paid plan either way, and MailerLite is cheaper at every tier. At 10,000 subscribers you are choosing between MailerLite Comfort at $89 and Kit Creator at $139, and the $50 buys you something specific rather than nothing.

At 10,000 subscribers MailerLite Comfort $89 Kit Creator $139
Monthly sends 100,000 (10x your tier) Unlimited
Automations 50 Unlimited
Forms 10 Unlimited
Landing pages and websites 10 combined Unlimited
Team seats 3 2
Digital products 5 Included

That is a genuine trade rather than a markup. MailerLite gives you an extra seat for less money; Kit removes the ceilings. Which is worth more depends on whether you are a small team hitting seat limits or a solo operator hitting volume limits.

Does MailerLite have a send limit?

Yes, on Comfort, and it catches more people than the subscriber count does. Comfort caps your monthly sends at ten times your subscriber tier. At 500 subscribers that is 5,000 emails a month. One weekly campaign to the full list uses 2,000 of them, and a three email welcome sequence plus a monthly re-engagement flow will eat much of the rest.

Kit has no equivalent cap on any plan, including the free one. If you mail more than about eight times a month, that difference is worth more than the price gap. This is the single most common reason a MailerLite account that looks affordable on paper turns out not to be: you upgrade to Power for the send ceiling, not for the features, and Power is $129 at 10,000 against Comfort's $89.

Will I keep my old MailerLite price?

No. MailerLite moves every paid account onto Comfort or Power at its next renewal, or sooner if you upgrade or downgrade manually, and renewal prices reflect the new plans. There is no grandfathered rate and no single migration date, so the change reaches each account on its own anniversary. If you bought an annual plan before June 2026, work out your renewal month and budget the higher number from there. The full ladder and the renewal terms are in our MailerLite pricing breakdown.

Is Kit still called ConvertKit?

Kit is the current name. ConvertKit rebranded to Kit in late 2024, and the older name is still what most people search for and what most published comparisons use in their titles. It is the same product and the same account, not a separate platform. This matters when you are reading pricing content: a page titled "ConvertKit pricing" is not automatically out of date, but a page quoting ConvertKit prices from before September 2025 is, because that is when the roughly 35 percent increase landed.

Which should you pick?

Pick Kit if your list is under 10,000, you send a lot, and your automation needs are simple. The free plan is the best offer either vendor has and you should use it until it stops fitting.

Pick MailerLite if you need real automation on a budget, if you want more than one seat, or if you are already over 10,000 subscribers and the paid comparison is what matters. It is cheaper at every paid tier, its builder is excellent, and it does not bill you for unsubscribed or bounced contacts. Just price it from the current ladder, because the reputation MailerLite earned as the generous budget option is running about a year behind the actual product.

If you are shopping mainly because your list is not growing, neither answer helps. Growth comes from having something worth subscribing to going out consistently, and for a lot of newsletter operators the next revenue step is not a cheaper sender but a way to turn the tools and gear you already recommend into something your readers can buy from, which changes the economics more than $20 a month of platform fees ever will.

And if the real problem is that the emails do not get written, that is a content problem rather than a platform problem. AutoMarketer writes the campaigns from your website, along with your SEO articles, social posts and ad copy, on a flat plan that does not move when your list grows. It does not send them: you still need MailerLite or Kit for that, which is exactly why this comparison is worth getting right.
