Later Pricing 2026 With Later Alternatives, the Later Free Plan Question and Later Plans per Social Set

Later bills per social set, one profile on each of eight networks, so one brand on five platforms pays for one set while Buffer bills it five times. Here is every plan in US dollars, the post cap that ends Starter early, what extra sets cost an agency, and the tools that come out cheaper.

The short answer

Later costs $25 a month for Starter, $50 for Growth and $110 for Scale on monthly billing, or $18.75, $37.50 and $82.50 a month billed yearly, which is 25 percent off. Each plan is sized in social sets, where one set is one profile on each of Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Threads, YouTube, Pinterest, LinkedIn and Snapchat. Starter has 1 set, 1 user and 30 posts per profile a month; Growth has 2 sets and 2 users; Scale has 6 sets and 4 users. There is no free plan, only a 14 day trial. Later schedules content you supply; it does not write a month of it for you.

In the product

What you get

One set covers a whole brand

A social set is one profile on each of eight networks. A bakery on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and Pinterest uses one set, and Later charges for one set. Per channel tools charge for that same brand four times, which is the whole reason Later can come out cheaper.

The Starter cap is posts, not profiles

Starter allows 30 posts per profile each month. That is one post a day with nothing left for a second Reel, a Story or a reshare. Brands that post more than daily on any one network hit the cap before they hit any other limit.

Starter cannot grow

Extra social sets and extra users are sold only on Growth and Scale. On Starter, a second brand or a second login means upgrading the whole plan to $50, not adding a single seat.

Extra sets are what agencies pay for

An additional social set is $11.25 a month on yearly billing, about $15 on monthly, and an additional user is $5 a month. Ten client brands fit Scale plus four extra sets, which is the line item agencies should price before they sign.

A flat plan for comparison

AutoMarketer is priced per plan rather than per set or per person: $49 a month on Starter for SEO and social content, $149 on Growth which adds email and Google Ads copy, $399 on Scale for every content type.

Later schedules, it does not write

Later includes 5 to 100 AI credits a month for captions. It does not read your website and draft a month of posts and articles. If the calendar is empty because nobody has time to write, paste your URL on this page and read the drafts first.

Step by step

How it works

Cafe owner planning a month of social posts on a tablet at a table after closing
  1. 01

    Count brands, not channels

List the brands you post for. Each brand that needs no more than one profile per network is one social set. That number, together with how many people need a login, picks the Later plan.

  2. 02

    Check posts per profile

If any brand posts more than 30 times a month on one network, Starter is out regardless of how small you are. Growth raises the cap to 180 posts per profile, and Scale removes it.

  3. 03

    Paste your URL here

The demo reads your website, works out what you sell, and drafts a month of social posts and SEO content, so you can judge the writing itself rather than a feature grid.

  4. 04

    Approve and export

Drafts land in a review queue. Approve what you want and export it as CSV or copy it out, then schedule it in Later, Buffer or natively from your own accounts.

Use cases

Who it is for

Boutique owner comparing social media scheduler plans on a laptop with a phone showing a calendar grid

One brand on five or more networks

This is where Later wins on price. Five profiles of one brand fit a single set on Starter at $25 a month. The same five channels cost $30 on Buffer Essentials monthly and $60 on Buffer Team.

One brand posting more than daily

A restaurant or retailer that posts two Reels a day on Instagram passes 30 posts on Starter in the third week. It needs Growth at $50 for the posting volume alone, even with one brand and one person.

An agency with ten client brands

Scale holds 6 sets and 4 users. Four extra sets bring it to ten brands for about $170 a month on monthly billing, or $127.50 billed yearly. SocialPilot Ultimate covers 40 accounts for $200, so the answer depends on how many networks each client uses.

A team whose calendar is empty

If posts are written and simply need scheduling, Later is good value. If nothing gets written in the first place, a cheaper or dearer scheduler does not fix it. A tool that drafts the content does.

How much does Later cost in 2026?

Later sells three self serve plans. Starter is $25 a month, Growth is $50 and Scale is $110 on monthly billing. Pay for a year up front and the same plans work out to $18.75, $37.50 and $82.50 a month, a flat 25 percent discount that the pricing page presents as three months free. Every plan comes with a 14 day trial. There is no free plan.

The pricing page loads with yearly billing selected, so the first numbers most people see, and the numbers most pricing guides copy, are the yearly rates shown as a monthly figure. That single detail explains most of the conflicting Later prices online. A guide that lists Scale at $82.50 and another that lists it at $110 are usually both right, one quoting yearly and one quoting monthly.

PlanMonthly billingYearly billing, per monthYearly totalWhat it holds
Starter$25$18.75$2251 social set, 1 user, 30 posts per profile a month
Growth$50$37.50$4502 social sets, 2 users, 180 posts per profile a month
Scale$110$82.50$9906 social sets, 4 users, unlimited posts

What is a social set, and why it changes the math

Most schedulers bill by the channel or by the person. Later bills by the social set, which is one profile on each of the eight networks it supports: Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Threads, YouTube, Pinterest, LinkedIn and Snapchat. A brand that runs one account on each network it uses needs exactly one set, whether that is two networks or all eight.

That makes Later unusually cheap for one brand on many networks and unusually expensive for one network across many brands. A boutique on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Pinterest and Threads is five channels on Buffer and one set on Later. A franchise group running twelve local Instagram accounts and nothing else needs twelve sets on Later, because a second Instagram profile cannot share a set with the first.

SituationLater, monthly billingBuffer Essentials, monthlySocialPilot, monthly
1 brand on 3 networks, 1 person$25 (Starter)$18$20 (Essentials)
1 brand on 5 networks, 1 person$25 (Starter)$30$20 (Essentials)
2 brands on 4 networks each, 2 people$50 (Growth)$96 on Team, which a second login requires$40 (Standard)
10 client brands on 4 networks each, 4 peopleAbout $170 (Scale plus 4 sets)Up to $480 on Team, less after the volume discount above 10 channels$200 (Ultimate)

The extra set price is $11.25 a month on yearly billing, which works out to about $15 a month on monthly billing, and the agency row uses the monthly figure. Buffer discounts channels above ten without publishing the ladder, so its agency figure is a ceiling, not a quote.

The Starter limits that decide it before price does

Starter looks like the obvious choice for a single business, and for many it is. Two limits end it earlier than people expect.

The first is the post cap. Starter allows 30 posts per profile each month, roughly one a day. That sounds generous until you count a Reel, a Story and a carousel as three posts. A restaurant posting twice a day on Instagram runs out in the middle of the month, and the only fix is Growth at $50, which raises the cap to 180 posts per profile.

The second is that Starter cannot be extended. Extra social sets and extra users are sold only on Growth and Scale. A business that opens a second location with its own Instagram account, or hires someone who needs a login, has to move the whole account to Growth. On Buffer or SocialPilot the same change costs one more channel or one more seat.

What Later costs an agency

Agencies feel the social set model most. Scale includes 6 sets and 4 users for $110 a month, or $82.50 billed yearly. Each additional client brand is another set, and each additional team member is $5 a month. Ten client brands come to about $170 a month on monthly billing and $127.50 on yearly billing. Twenty clients would add fourteen sets to Scale, roughly $320 a month on monthly billing or $240 billed yearly, by which point SocialPilot Ultimate at $200 a month for 40 accounts, or a quoted plan, deserves a look.

The comparison flips with how many networks each client uses. An agency whose clients each run five or six networks gets far more out of a Later set than out of SocialPilot's per account pricing. An agency whose clients mostly use Instagram and Facebook is paying Later for six empty slots in every set. For a fuller look at what tooling should cost per client, see our breakdown of social media management for agencies and the cost per client.

Is Later worth it?

Later is worth it for a visual brand that posts on five or more networks and wants a calendar built around Instagram and TikTok. Its link in bio page, visual planner and best time to post suggestions are built for that buyer, and one set covering every network is real value at $25.

It is weaker in three cases. A brand on two or three networks pays less on Buffer. A team that needs a shared inbox, approvals across many people and social listening will outgrow it and land on Hootsuite or Sprout Social, which price per seat and cost several times as much. And a business whose real problem is that nobody has time to write the posts will not be helped by any scheduler, because every one of them, Later included, publishes content you supply.

Each figure above comes from our own pricing pages, each checked against its vendor: Buffer pricing per channel, SocialPilot pricing, Hootsuite pricing and Sprout Social pricing. If you are choosing between the two most common picks for small brands, Later vs Buffer pricing works through the crossover by brand and team size.

Where AutoMarketer fits, and where it does not

AutoMarketer is not a scheduler and does not post to your accounts. It reads your website, works out what you sell and who buys it, and drafts a month of social posts, SEO articles and, on Growth, email and Google Ads copy. Everything waits in a review queue. You approve what you want, export it, and schedule it in Later, Buffer or natively.

That makes it a complement to Later rather than a replacement. If your Later calendar is full and you simply want it cheaper, use the table above. If it is empty because writing is the bottleneck, paste your website into the demo at the top of this page and read a month of drafts before you pay for any tool. The AI social media manager page explains how the drafting works in more detail.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Later costs $25 a month for Starter, $50 for Growth and $110 for Scale with monthly billing. Billed yearly the same plans work out to $18.75, $37.50 and $82.50 a month, a 25 percent discount that Later presents as three months free. There is a 14 day free trial and no free plan.

No. The Later pricing page lists three paid plans and a 14 day free trial, with no permanent free tier. Older guides still describe a Later free plan, which is why the search persists. If you need a free tier to start, Buffer still runs one with 3 channels and 10 scheduled posts per channel.

A social set is one profile on each of the eight networks Later supports: Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Threads, YouTube, Pinterest, LinkedIn and Snapchat. One brand normally uses one set no matter how many of those networks it is on. A second Instagram account for the same business needs a second set.

An extra social set costs $11.25 a month on yearly billing, which works out to about $15 a month on monthly billing. Extra sets can be added only on Growth and Scale. Starter cannot add sets or users, so a second brand on Starter means upgrading to Growth.

Starter allows 1 user, Growth 2 and Scale 4. Additional users cost $5 a month and, like extra social sets, are available only on Growth and Scale. A three person team therefore lands on Growth plus one extra user, or on Scale.

For one brand on five or more networks, yes. Five channels cost $25 a month on Later Starter against $30 on Buffer Essentials and $60 on Buffer Team with monthly billing. For a brand on two or three channels Buffer is cheaper, and for large teams Buffer Team is cheaper because it includes unlimited users.

Almost always. Hootsuite Standard is $99 per user a month and Professional $199 per user, while Later Scale covers four users and six brands for $110 a month. Hootsuite earns its price with a unified inbox, listening and approval workflows that larger teams need, not with scheduling itself.

It depends on what you pay for. Buffer is the cheapest alternative for a brand on a few channels and has a free plan. SocialPilot is cheaper for agencies with many accounts, at $200 a month for 40. If the real gap is writing the posts rather than scheduling them, a content tool such as AutoMarketer fills it.

Pricing trackers logged changes to the top plan during 2026, and published figures for Scale range from $80 to $110. The live pricing page shows Scale at $82.50 a month billed yearly, which is $110 a month on monthly billing. Most of the disagreement online comes from mixing the yearly and monthly rates.

Monthly billing is the flexible choice, because you commit one month at a time at $25, $50 or $110. Yearly plans are paid up front for twelve months at the 25 percent discount, so read the refund terms in the Later help center before choosing yearly billing if you are not sure the tool will stick.
